A Kitchen pantry cabinet can add a lot of storage to a kitchen; they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. The largest type is often a walk in pantry built into the architectural features of the kitchen. These provide the maximum storage space but you will also sacrifice that space for circulation, or surface preparation space so you will need to have quite a large kitchen to make this investment. They can also often be farther away from the preparation and cooking areas meaning you will need a second set of cupboards to hold the food you use all of the time.

You can also get a pantry built into the millwork of your kitchen, typically this will be a floor to ceiling (or top of cupboards) unit with a single set of doors and multiple shelves/ drawers inside. You will not have counter space where the pantry is located but it is an ideal place to store food. You can choose between a freestanding and a built in unit when redoing your kitchen. The benefits of a built in unit are stability, you never have to worry about whether or not it will tip over this way. This also allows them to be larger and taller adding extra storage space which is always an added benefit. A built in unit will also look more professional and can match your existing cabinets. The downside of course is that they are permanent and so you can’t move a built in kitchen pantry cabinet if you decide to change your kitchen up and they are also more expensive than a freestanding option.

When deciding on what pantry will fit your needs, make sure that whatever you decide there is a wide variety of shelves and drawers that will allow for lots of different storage options. Make sure there are large enough shelves for your biggest food items but also enough division to keep all of the smaller items easy to find. Why not try using the inside face of the door to the kitchen pantry cabinet as additional storage space for those common and small items. Watch out for pantries that are too deep, as items can easily get lost behind other groceries in these situations. Another important consideration is the location of the pantry keeping it close to the food preparation and stove so that you can easily access the things you need while cooking.
