Painting kitchen cabinets can be one of the most inexpensive ways to create a drastic change, for only the price of a couple of cans of paint and some elbow grease it will look like a whole new room that may even leave you wondering if this is still your kitchen. Some things to keep in mind when painting your kitchen; if you are painting over wood cabinets make sure you are prepared to make this a permanent change.  While there is always stripping the paint and re-staining and varnishing your cabinets this can be quite the process and they may never be able to return to their original glory.

When painting kitchen cabinets, first you will want to remove all of the doors – don’t forget to label them or you may have some difficulty matching them back up in the right place once your done. Remove the hardware or tape it off along with anything else you don’t want to get paint on like your expensive countertop. Then you will want to prime and sand everything before painting your cabinets. Keep your extra paint once your done, it will help with quick fixes if you ever start to see chips later on – just sand down the effected area and give it another quick coat.

Can’t decide on what color to paint your cabinets? Why not try a classic crisp white to brighten up your kitchen? If your worried about marks a muted grey can add depth and wear better. What about adding some color into your kitchen with painted cabinets! Nervous about changing to color soft and lighter colors will be less overpowering while still making a statement for example a soft sea foam green or a pale yellow. Or if your not afraid of color go bold with a bright red drawing attention to your new cupboards, just make sure the rest of your kitchen is more simple and muted and that the statement color is not going to clash with an equally bright wall or overwhelming accents. Two-tone cupboards are a great way to bring in some depth without overpowering a small space. With color be careful if you choose a dark or a bright one as it can make a space look much smaller. Don’t be afraid to take a chance with painting kitchen cabinets, this a less permanent option, but if you are unsure why not try painting a large swatch on one of your doors first to make sure it’s the right fit for you!
